According to reports, police reportedly encircled Fred Matiang'i's residence in the Karen neighborhood of Nairobi on Wednesday night.

The purpose of the police investigation was unclear.

Journalists were informed by the ex-attorney minister's that Mr. Matiang'i was locked up in his residence and that the government was attempting to frame and unjustly accuse his client.

Following the tragedy, a number of politicians, including opposition leader Raila Odinga, gathered at the residence for a night vigil.

Mr. Odinga criticized the conduct, calling it governmental harassment and intimidation.

On Thursday morning, the former minister was scheduled to travel with a group of attorneys to the closest police station to provide a statement.

Mr. Matiang'i worked to prevent President William Ruto from taking office as a senior cabinet minister and important ally of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Earlier this month, security personnel assigned to prominent figures who served under Mr. Kenyatta, including Mr. Matiang'i, were reduced.
