Manchester United have condemned racial comments aimed at Anthony Martial and Axel Tuanzebe after the Red Devils 2-1 defeat to Sheffield United at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

The club failed to climb back to top spot as they trail behind their city rivals by a point with a game in hand for the Etihad side.

The win was the Blades first away victory in the Premier League and opening win against Manchester United since December 1973, ending an eight-game losing run in all competitions at Old Trafford.

The performance on the night was heavily criticized by a section of United fans but a few took to attack Martial on Instagram with racist comments and symbols on old photos. Tuanzebe was also targeted on Twitter.

The club on Thursday morning criticized the action by some of the fans and affirmed the club “has zero-tolerance of any form of racism or discrimination and a long-standing commitment to campaigning against it through our All Red All Equal initiative.”

“Everyone at Manchester United is disgusted by the racial abuse received by players via social media after last night’s game.

“We utterly condemn it and it is encouraging to see other fans condemn this on social media also.
