Social Commentator, Opoku Mensah has partly blamed the ‘fall’ in the education sector on the nature of the subjects been thought.

Speaking on Ark in the Morning monitored by Soiree News Nana Ama Asiedu, Mr Opoku Mensah said most of the subjects studied at the various schools do not benefit the students as well as the society at large.

According to him, the Ghana Education Service has done the country no good in its attempt to continuously change some of the subjects. He is of the view that some of the important subjects have been replaced with others that have a positive impact on society.

He said everything must be done to suit the Ghanaian environment. ‘‘Looking at the Ghanaian environment we needed more agricultural and scientific education’’ he said.  He finally expressed worry over why teachers are not allowed to punish students by canning

The Chairperson of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Emeritus Professor Stephen Adei has bemoaned the educational system at the basic level describing it as 'horrible'.

According to him, 80% of public basic schools in the villages are awful; which he blamed on teachers’ refusal to educate properly and their lack of supervision.

Former Public Relation Officer (PRO) for Coalition of Concern Teachers CCT Norbert Gborgbortsi has said Ghana’s education sector has been designed to suit the foreign world and that is not the best.
