NPP's Wontumi In Fresh Trouble

The Manhyia Palace has ordered the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, to haul the Ashanti regional Chairman of the party, Bernard Antwi Bosiako, aka Wontumi, before it for disrespecting the Asantehene.

According to reports, Chairman Wontumi is alleged to have challenged the Asantehene’s authority during the NPP’s vetting of parliamentary aspirants last week.
Wontumi, without provocation, had said in public that he would challenge the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, if he (Wontum) disagrees on an issue with the Asantehene.
The notorious NPP Chairman said he has built his own kingdom in Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital, and he is not afraid of anybody including Otumfuo.
“I have built my own kingdom, I have my own police and military, and I will speak my mind to Otumfuo if I disagree on an issue with him (Otumfuo).”
According to reports, those present at the vetting venue, including Henry Nana Boakye, who chaired the panel, were stunned by Wontumi show of power and arrogance.
Nana Kwaku Duah, the Kokosohene, who was also present when Wontumi passed those comments about the Asantehene, his overlord, became furious.
Kokosohene, who couldn’t contend Wontumi’s arrogance asked him to retract his words and apologise.
“You can’t sit here in public and brag that you have built a kingdom in Kumasi, the capital of Ashanti Kingdom. Retract those disrespectful comments and apologize immediately.
“For you to even say those words in my presence is unacceptable and I’m not happy about your weird and disrespectful behaviour,”, Kokosohene reportedly fumed at Wontumi.
His unprovoked attack on Otumfuo has sparked anger at the Manhyia Palace, the seat of the Asantehene, necessitating his summon before the Council.
