The Obuasi East District Health Executive Platform has resolved to intensify public Education on the Coronavirus pandemic to continue to drum home the existence of the virus.

This was revealed at a monthly meeting of the group held on Friday, May 7, 2021, in Obuasi.

The Committee is made up of officials from the District Health Directorate, Health Personnel from the SDA Hospital, AGA Health Foundation, Bryant Mission Hospital and Todah Hospital.

Inaugurated on November 18th 2020, the DHEP is expected to have monthly meetings, training programs, contact tracing, case management, and educational programs on Coronavirus disease in the various communities. To effectively disseminate information on COVID-19 to the nooks and crannies of the District, the Committee has decided to continue its intense publicity campaigns to sensitize the citizens of Obuasi East about the ongoing CRIB Project, its sponsors and its purpose.

Again, the Committee at the last meeting agreed to work on publishing their activities and information on the Coronavirus electronically.

At the meeting, it was also made known that a new containerized biosafety lab at AGA Health Foundation has been prepared to facilitate urgent testing of suspected cases who are critically ill or who are staff of the various health facilities.

As per the protocol that existed with the use of the GRA van whose services ended a few months ago, Obuasi and its communities continue to benefit from expedited COVID-19 testing for suspected cases classified by approved healthcare personnel as requiring urgent decision to ensure appropriate response and improved quality of care.

This includes but not limited to the critically ill. It was again revealed that Screening, Triacing and OPD education on COVID-19 still continues at the various facilities. Employees are also updated periodically on new information regarding the prevention and management of the disease.

On the COVID-19  situation in the District,  the Obuasi East District Health Director, Madam Delphine Gborgblorvor said as of 30th April 2021, there has been a cumulative total of 561 cases of which there have been 542 recoveries and 12 deaths.

There are currently 7 active cases, all of which are mild and undergoing home isolation.

The Health Director seized the opportunity to demystify the conspiracy theories generated towards the Vaccination exercise and encouraged the public to take part in the vaccination as the country prepares for the next round of vaccination.

She further appealed to residents in the District to continue to adhere to the COVID-19 safety protocols.
