INFORMATION reaching us indicates that the Madina Constituency branch of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Greater Accra Region has been thrown into panic and disarray.

The ruling party, which is the most dominant
in the constituency, have lost their dominance following the increasing affection for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Madina Constituency, Francis-Xavier Kojo Sosu.

This show of affection came to light when Honourable Sosu, launched his 2024 parliamentary campaign on Saturday, May 5, 2024, charging the youth, men, women, drivers, farmers, traders, traditional office holders, religious leaders, students and artisans to retain the seat for the party.

While speaking on the theme, "Building The Ghana We Want," Hon. Sosu said 2024 Is Our Chance to redeem the historic glory of Ghana and give hope to everyone. The successful event was graced by some bigwigs of the NDC including Assembly members of the 15 electoral areas within Madina, Member of Parliament for Asawase in the Ashanti Region, Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, First Vice chairman of the NDC, Mr Sofo Awudu Azorka, former MP for Madina, Honourable Amadu Bukari Sorogho among others.

The event, which was initially scheduled to be a brief one, turned out to be a mammoth rally that attracted several residents, chiefs, clergy, and opinion leaders from all parts of the constituency.

The event was used to commission the new ultra-modern party office to run administrative affairs of the party more efficiently and effectively.

The new edifice was inaugurated with a
lot of fanfare and excitement as some party members praised Honourable Sosu for the initiative that was also a fulfilled promise to the party. The supporters joined him in a procession to embark on NDC's 24 Hour Economy walk that brought commercial activities to a halt earlier in Madina.

Moments after the event, Honourable Sosu zoomed into action by calling on the youth, artisans, men, women, and traders to be "his backbone" to retain the seat.

In order to have the buy-in of the people, especially the youth, in retaining power, therefore, the MP has introduced a number of youth empowerment programmes to reduce unemployment and create wealth for all in a 24-hour economy.

The programmes include skills training, supporting individuals in practical educational programmes, and engaging a number in his self-sponsoring constituency projects, including roads.

The human rights lawyer said that although he was sure of victory, he would not be complacent.

With barely eight (8) months to the general election, the legal practitioner is confident of winning the support of the electorates to represent them in parliament.”

Addressing his supporters in an atmosphere of jubilation, Lawyer Sosu called for unity to ensure a resounding victory.

He saw the ruling NPP leaders in Madina as being greedy and selfish, saying they don’t have the constituents at heart but their personal interests alone.

According to him, the NDC is the only best alternative for Ghanaians and called on the electorate to vote for him as parliamentary candidate to retain his seat and also vote for former President John Dramani Mahama to win the presidential election.

The MP listed several achievements as projects he lobbied for during the last three years during the launch of his 2024 campaign for a second bid.

Announcing his success stories in education and health sectors , Honourable Sosu said, together, they have provided classroom infrastructure to many schools, lobbied for the construction of a health facility at Madina, “today, we have connected many communities to the national grid than ever before in the history of Ghana". He added.

Speaking on the water projects, he mentioned that, he has extended water facilities to communities, and with NGO support, boreholes were sunk in communities without access to the services of the Ghana Water Company Limited-“I also lobbied many Water Closet facilities to communities in the constituency.

He further stated how he lobbied for the construction of toilet facilities in some communities and also started comprehensive skill training programmes for the people of Madina.

The MP, however, challenged the party Members, that they cannot rest in the face of all the best successes they have made knowing very well that there are many challenges that confront them-“these challenges are known and these challenges are our common problems. We will fight to defeat them.”

He also asked supporters and members of the party in the area to ignore needless and destructive allegations targeted at him and join him in campaigning for the victory ahead as he believes in a democracy that does not resort to insults or attacks, “our democracy must be matured. We must avoid the politics of threats, attacks, and lies against innocent persons just to deceive the people for votes. Comrades, please beware!”.

He stressed that the 2024 campaign for the NDC is not going to be based on EXPERIMENT. It will be based on EXPERIENCE. Let’s appreciate our experiences while working towards victory in 2024. We are going to build Madina Constituency together.”

Some prominent personalities who graced the occasion appealed to voters to retain Lawyer Sosu for a more prosperous Madina.

According to them, the current MP has a promising future for the Madina, and retaining him will mean a lot for the constituency.
