Counter-Terrorism Unit in collaboration with Weija Divisional Police Command has arrested over 10 people including Police officers, National Security personnel with guns defending illegal sand winners and destroying farms at Obom Agbazor in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

Over 1,000 farmers crops have been destroyed by illegal sand winners at Obom Agbozo and the ferocious act has received backing from some police officers, National security and Land Guards with guns.

In an interview with Soireenews, the Municipal Chief Executive for Ga South, Joseph Nyarni who led the delegation said, the people engaged in the sand winning have no working permit and are neither compensating the farmers.

Joseph Nyarni confirmed that those people protecting them are National security officers, police officers and land guards. The MCE indicated that the Assembly will work hard to flash all illegal sand winners from the municipality to save farmlands.

Four excavators were also impounded including three private cars and 10 tipper cars. 

Meanwhile, some of the farmers who have their lands stripped from them made known they were afraid to talk for fear of losing their lives.

They commended the MCE for arresting perpetrators of the sand winning activities.
