The Poultry farmers in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region are very disappointed in the Agric Minister Honorable Akoto Afriye over the lack of support for their business.

The farmers who spoke with Soireenews said their farms need immediate attention if not they are going to reduce their farm size by 2 percent of the current state their poultry farm is doing.

On a visit to some of the farms, the farmers complained about numerous challenges confronting their activities and said they alone cannot handle the situation but called on the Ministry of Agriculture to be of help to them since their businesses are collapsing.

They said, if the government refuses to show up with the support and resources needed to salvage the poultry farm industry in the area as soon as possible, the farmers will lose their investment.

Some of the poultry farmers enumerated some of the challenges that need serious attention like maize and other feeds which are very difficult to afford due to the high cost of the product has become very tough for the farmers.

They added that the price of the feed is killing them since the prices keep increasing always. They were buying the feed at Ghc160.00 per bag but have now been increased to Ghc195.00 making it difficult for them to meet the demand.

There is a good house under the 1D1F which for some years now, there's no maze has processed there. meanwhile, these poultry farms used to process about 24,000 eggs a day, they said.

The Poultry farmers in Ayensuano District blamed the setback in the chicken industry on the country’s malls.

According to them, they complain of shopping malls and other supermarkets not buying from them but only a few local chicken meat and mixing it with the foreign imported ones because this behavior has caused them to lose huge sums of their returns.

The poultry farmers finally called on the government to intervene in the situation and rescue them from what they are currently ongoing through as business people to help them get the returns of their investment in the poultry business.
