According to The Country news site, a number of MPs in Malawi are protesting against President Lazarus Chakwera by wearing clothing made of gunny sacks while he delivers his state of the nation speech.
In the midst of a worsening economic crisis and a public health disaster brought on by a cholera outbreak, the opposition members claimed they were dissatisfied with the president's leadership.
While reading his remarks, Mr. Chawera acknowledged that he had anticipated animosity from some MPs.
He urged for national unity and attributed the nation's economic difficulties to "foreign shock."
