The Ashanti Regional Elections Security Taskforce (RESTF) have assured that Security Agencies in the Ashanti Region are well prepared to protect lives of citizens ahead of the elections on Monday, December 7, 2020.

In a statement released by Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service, signed by the Assistant Superintendent of Police and the Public Affairs Officer, Godwin Ahianyo on Friday, December 4, 2020, RESTF have guaranteed eligible voters to go out in numbers and exercise their franchise without fear and panic notwithstanding speculations of people planning to cause chaos at polling stations.

The release encourages citizens to report unscrupulous character(s) who would want to engage in any act of violence through the following numbers 029920770, 0322495411, 191, 18555.

Below is the full release:

  1. The Ashanti Regional Elections Security Taskforce (RESTF) wishes to remind all registered voters and the general public that the Security Agencies in the Region are ready and well prepared to Police the General Elections on Monday 7th December 2020.
  2. Eligible voters are therefore encouraged to go out in their numbers to cast their votes without fear of intimidation. Personnel will ensure that there is absolute peace and order at all polling centres as well as the collation centres.
  3. The Regional Election Security Taskforce has, however, directed that on the Election Day, no motorbike should go close to any of the polling and collation centres. All motorbikes must stay 200 meters radius away from the centres.
  4. Apart from personnel of Security Agencies who will be allowed to sit in buckets of 4x4 pickup vehicles for patrols, no other person will be allowed to do so. Any driver found carrying passengers in the bucket of his or her vehicle will have it impounded, until the end of the election.
  5. The RESTF, wishes to remind the general public that there is a Monitoring Team in place to enforce this directive and will make sure the directive is carried out to the latter. Motor riders and 4x4 pickup drivers are therefore being cautioned to comply with these directives.          In case of reply, the Number and date of this letter should be quoted My Ref.
