Update : case involving a 55 year - old who defiled a class 6 student adjourned to march 15.

The Obuasi circuit court presided over by her ladyship Joyce Boahen has remanded a 55-year-old Bright Bosompem farmer, who was allegedly defined as a 12-year-old class 6 student on January 1, to reappear before the court on March 15, 2022.

The mother of the victim was however unhappy with the court decision.

"I was not even briefed on the decision made by the honorable court, I was standing outside when my husband came to tell me he has been briefed by the cid so we should go home and come on next month because the case has been adjourned".

Am much disappointed because my daughter's life is in danger. I pray to the court to be swift in seeking justice for my little girl, that is all I need now she added.

Background.

A 12-year-old class 6 pupil has been defiled by a 55-year-old Apketeshi vendor who doubles as a farmer at Fomena in the Adansi North District of the Ashanti region.

Bright Bosompem 55, accused, lured the victim's name withheld into his residents on 1st January 2022 and allegedly defiled her.

The case was held in Obuasi circuit court today, 19 January 2022 after an official report was made to the police on January 6.

The suspect was arrested by the victim's father Kwadwo Tawiah aka Play Boy on January 14, 2022, and handed to the police on the same day.

Case presided over by Her Ladyship Joyce Boahen, after further interrogation by chief inspector Theresah Owusu, Bosompem pleaded not guilty on charges leveled against him.

However,  he was granted a bail of 50,000 ghana cedis with two surety while the case has been adjourned to 10th February 2022, based on the unstable health condition of the suspect.

Detective inspector Joseph Boakye Danquah of the criminal investigation department Fomena police command,  who is the investigator for the case is hap the case has been finally brought to court for prosecution.

He explained that "I have been called by more than 5 powerful men since I started following the case it got appointed I have to switch off my phone just to protect the life of the innocent girl he said".

Adding that, he will make sure the right is done for justice to prevail and to serve as a deterrent to individuals who have a perception of performing a similar unusual act.

The victim's mother was unhappy with today's ruling, she still believes justice will surely prevail.

"some people keep mute when they encounter issues like what has happened to my daughter because of how the case is at times being handled by the court, hence the court should always be swift in prosecution for the lost confidence to be gained back by Ghanaians".

She however pleaded with the police as well as the court to be fair in prosecuting her daughter's case.
