A GROUP calling itself Volta Youth Against Western Togoland, has appealed to esteemed organizations such as the Christian Council, Peace Council, Catholic Bishops Conference, National House of Chiefs, and Civil Society Organizations to address the growing concerns surrounding Western Togoland during election periods.
According to the group, it has seen the current trends of Western Togoland issues to be an intention of some parochial individuals to create a volatile situation in the Volta Region and turn it into a potential hotspot for military activities that will induce fear and panic among voters in the 2024 elections.
In a press statement signed and issued by the leadership of the group in the persons of Setsoafia Deynu, Chris Akuaku and Franklin K. Denu, the group implored the aforementioned groups to utilize their influential voices to bring about a resolution and maintain peace in the region during elections.
Failure to intervene, according to the group, could lead to increased tensions, jeopardizing the democratic process and instilling fear in voters.
"As concerned citizens, we are committed to standing up against any threats and will match any escalation "boot for boot" to safeguard the rights of the people.
"We trust that these respected organizations will play a pivotal role in calling for restraint, dialogue, and a peaceful resolution to ensure that elections in the Volta Region proceed without interference, intimidation, or violence.
"Let us unite for the cause of peace and uphold the principles of democracy that our nation holds dear," the statement concluded.
