Amidst the ongoing nationwide second jab of the AstraZeneca vaccine, Zoomlion Ghana Limited, handling the management of Covid-19 waste, has assured Ghanaians of correct and safe disposal of Covid waste that will be generated at the various vaccine centres.

The Municipal Health Director, Techiman, Dr Kwabena Fosuhene Kusi, lamented the quantity of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine received from the government was inadequate.

“We only received 750 Johnson and Johnson vaccines and looking at the population of Techiman which is about 191, 000 people, it is obvious that this is woefully inadequate,” he said.

He was, however, quick to add that with the limited Johnson and Johnson vaccines, his outfit has resolved to vaccinate health workers, security personnel and the aged.

The Bono East Regional Manager of Zoomlion, Mr George Manu gave the assurance at the sideline of the ongoing nationwide exercise by the company to manage the biomedical waste that would be generated from Covid-19 vaccination.

According to Mr Manu, the company have acquired Auto Cliff Machines nationwide where the biomedical waste would finally be dumped.

He said the Auto Cliff machines are made in such a way that the biomedical waste would shread waste and be heated to a certain temperature to kill all viruses and other organisms before finally disposed off.

Mr Manu said Ghanaians should not dream of any outbreak as a result of biomedical waste from the Covid-19 vaccination waste material because it currently going through professional treatment.

"We are trained to ensure that medical waste generated from Covid-19 vaccination does not cause harm to anybody nationwide," he stated

He said Zoomlion has distributed over 92 dust bins across 11 administrative districts in the region with 380 bin liners.

Mr Manu said the only challenge the region faced was how to get the various waste bins and bin liners to the various centres where the exercise is taking place.

Some of the vaccination centres visited includes Holy Family Hospital, Bono East Coordinating Council, Techiman vaccination centre, Municipal Health Directorate, Techiman, Tuobodom Health Centre, Kintampo South District Hospital, Jama and Kintampo Government Hospital.
