Ghanaian artiste, Akwaboah, has opined that Amakye Dede was forced to crown Kuami Eugene the next King of Highlife at 2019 VGMAs by the organizers of the event.

According to the highlife singer, the legendary Amakye Dede was probably paid to do what he did since it was very obvious that Kuami Eugene is not the closest thing to the Highlife greats in the new generation.

He stated that although Kuami Eugene is very talented, he cannot be crowned as the next highlife king because there are others who are better than he is.

”Kuami Eugene is my son. I played a major role in his journey as an artist. I was a voice coach on the MTN Hitmaker show training him and the likes of Kidi and Kurl Songz. So to crown him as the Highlife King is not correct. Besides, the likes of Daddy Lumba, Kojo Antwi, and Kofi B were still active at that time."

"I think Uncle Amakye Dede was forced to do it because he would definitely not bring a crown from home to do that on stage. Probably, the organizers had a part to play in all that”, He said.

He made this known In an interview with Kwaku Manu. The highlife guru hailed that people that have had impacts in his life during the interview, pointing to Sarkodie as a huge example. He said that even though people think he and Sarkodie are enemies he would always be grateful for what the Sarkcess boss has done for him.

”I still have a great relationship with Sarkodie. I feel artiste should learn to appreciate whoever played a role in their career no matter how small. God blesses people with a grateful heart”, he concluded.
