It is believed that the assassins were able to locate the restaurant where 23-year-old Landy Párraga Goyburo was dining because she posted a photo of herself eating octopus ceviche.

She shared the photo of the expensive food with her 173,000 followers on Instagram at lunch, according to UK's The Sun.

She was soon discovered by the two armed assassins inside a Quevedo restaurant, where they fatally shot her.

Viral CCTV footage revealed the hitmen storming into the restaurant and shooting the model queen. As the murderers entered the building covertly and she didn't see, she was observed gazing at the entrance. Párraga sank to the ground and the man next to her ducked as the first hitman ran towards them.

The attacker with the mask then started shooting, hitting the man and the model. Then, while she lay still on the ground, he stood over her and opened fire repeatedly at close range.

The beauty queen, seen in footage wearing blue top, was talking to a man when the gunmen walked in

Then both attackers sprinted out the door and left the area. Pictures from later that day revealed the former beauty queen lying lifeless in a pool of blood on the ground, her right thigh clearly marked by a bullet wound.

As they look for the attackers, police are currently looking into the murder. Before Párraga's horrific death in prison, the widow of cartel chief Leandro Norero is thought to have recruited them.

The Attorney General's Office made Párraga's identity public in a conversation about a significant organized crime case it was looking into in December 2023.

Helive Angulo, who according to reports controlled Norero's funds, is one of the 52 defendants in the case. The cartel leader was informed by Angulo via the chat that Párraga was the subject of a police inquiry.

Norero cryptically replied: “If my wife comes across anything about her, I’m screwed.

“My friend, her name cannot come out anywhere. Otherwise, my world will come crashing down.”

Six months into his incarceration, in 2022, Norero was murdered in prison. The Attorney General's Office is looking into financial transfers made to Párraga's bank account.

She had never made a public statement about the situation, and the office never brought charges against the beauty queen. In 2022, Párraga represented Los Ríos Province as a competitor for Miss Ecuador.
