Government ICT Training  For Girls Huge Numbers Of  Pupils In Dormaa West Benefit

The huge number of female school children drawn from various basic and junior high schools across the Dormaa West District of the Bono Region were trained in the basic Information Communication and Technology (ICT) skills as well as career mentorship in the IT industry.

The training was under the National Girls-in –ICT initiative which is being spearheaded by the Ghana Investment Fund For Electronic Communications (GIFEC) through the Ministry of Communications and Digitisation.

The training organized on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, took place in Nkrankwanta Presbyterian Junior High School (JHS), with the participants receiving training in Coding, Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), Continuous Integration (CI), and Basic Computer Literacy.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Dormaa West District Assembly, Mr. Francis Kwadwo Oppong who disclosed this in an interview with Soureenews.com welcomed the National Girls-in –ICT initiative.

He lauded the central government for selecting the young girls to be trained in the ICT which will help curb the rural-urban migration among young girls and motivate them to invest in their education.
The DCE urged the young girls to utilize the knowledge acquired to enrich the society they live in.
 
Mr. Oppong was speaking to this news outlet when he together with the Dormaa West District Coordinating Director, Mr. Iddrisu Mahama, and some Assembly members visited the Nkrankwanta Presbyterian Junior High School where Girls in ICT training, which is organized by the Ministry of Communication through the Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence, supervised by Ghana Investment Fund For Electronic Communications.
 
Students who were under the ICT training expressed their gratitude to the Ministry of Communications and GIFEC for supporting them to become ICT experts in the future.
They indicated that the training had broadened their knowledge and skills in ICT.
Ministry of Communications, in partnership with its agencies, is conducting training for schoolgirls in the country under the National Girls in ICT initiative.
The Girls-in – ICT initiative is one of the flagship programs of the Ministry of Communications and is in line with the International Girls in ICT Day, an initiative backed by all ITU Member States, which aimed at encouraging and empowering girls and young women to consider studies and careers in the growing field of ICTs.
The training also enables both girls and technology companies to reap the benefits of greater female participation in the ICT sector.
As part of the training, a brief tour and inspection of the training centers were held by the Ministry and the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications.
