Essipong Stadium in Sekondi Takoradi Is Now A Death-Trap!
THE STATE OWNED Essipong Sports stadium in Sekondi Takoradi of the Western Region is
fast deteriorating and now serve as a death trap, painstaking investigations by Soireenews.com have revealed.

A looming disaster awaits the nation if managers of the facility and government fail to take immediate steps to address the architectural challenges that have saddled the Western Regional stadium which received a facelift in 2007 ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) hosted by Ghana in 2008.

A visit to the facility revealed that the roof, changing rooms, rest rooms and majority of the metal railings of the stadium are completely broken or corroded as managers of the state owned facility look on helpless.
The weeds and reptiles have taken over the facility.

The dilapidated nature of the once magnificent edifice is a worrying spectacle and once again brings to the fore Ghana’s lack of maintenance culture, especially when it comes to sporting infrastructure.
The Essipong Stadium which is only about a decade old has been left to rot by the National Sports Authority- the legal custodians of the various national sporting infrastructure.
This bad state of the stadium also reflects badly on the current Minister of Sports and Youth, Mr Mustapha Ussif who many people accused of not discharging his administrative mandate effectively.
