Some residents of Akuapem Mampong and Tutu, in the Akuapem North Municipality, have been without electricity for 24hours after a thunderstorm followed a heavy downpour on late Monday, May 3, 2021.

According to residents, the rain began at 5:14 pm and lasted till 6:00 pm with lighting, adding that it rained fell heavily for 50 continuous minutes and some portions of electric supply were cut off by thunder, following with lightings in two of the towns.

An eye witness at Royal Leeds hotel, lamented, that a flash of lightning struck the main high tension cables that supplied electrical power to Akuapem Mampong and Tutu rendering sections of them in blackout till 6 pm the following day before the Electricity company were able to restore power.

The security man of the hotel narrated that it was his first time seeing such lightning, adding that it strongly caught off three cables to his amazement.

He opined, that the problem could have been different if these lightenings could have met someone on the spot, indicated that the strike attracted the attention of people who were about 50 meters close to the scenes which resulted in himself drawing closer after the rain.

He encouraged the residents to find a place to hide whenever it is raining to avoid such deadly lightning.
