The Bono Chapter of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD), has called on government and stakeholders in the education sector to assess the current buildings of the educational institutions in the country to make them all-inclusive and accessible for people living with a disability.

In an interview with SoireeNews, the President of GFD, Sirina Mahamadu disclosed that most of their members find it difficult to access the educational institutions due to lack of ramps, elevators, and narrow classroom entrances with a high likelihood to impede independent entry and exit by students using wheelchairs and crutches, as well as those with visual impairment.

She said it has become a big challenge for People with Disabilities trying to access education in the school.

She explained some of the schools have neither ramps nor elevators to enable students with a disability access to the libraries, the assembly hall, and the classrooms on the second and third floors of their schools.

She however called for consideration of persons living with disabilities when putting up various institutions in the country.
