According to Kwasi Mensah who is the convenor and leader of the unemployed residents, since the mining company was established at Wassa Akyempim for decades, the company has refused to offer the residents employments.

Over 600 aggrieved jobless residents mostly youth of Wassa Akyempim in the Wassa East District of Western Region have expressed their displeasure through demonstration against Golden Star Wassa Mining Limited.
According to Kwasi Mensah who is the convenor and leader of the unemployed residents, since the mining company was established at Wassa Akyempim for decades, the company has refused to offer the residents employments. 
Explaining that the majority of the residents are competent enough to fill the various vacancies in the company but they are not employed.
The company however employed people outside the Wassa Akyempim community which they described as unfair recruitments.
Kwasi Mensah revealed that the Akyempim community and the Golden Star Wassa Limited have signed a Memorandum Of Understanding on employments but the company fails to apply the MoU.
The VICE Chairman of Akyempim Youth Association, Enoch Nyame also lamented that, Golden Star Wassa Limited has destroyed all their farm lands.
He complained that the workers have also bought all their building lands at affordable prices from the unemployed residents and impregnating their sisters and girlfriends which has rendered most of the youth in the community drunkards and thieves.
Some of the upset residents also shared their sentiments by appealing to Peace FM to add their powerful voice to it.
Meanwhile, Listowel Aboagye Dacosta made several efforts and attempts to hear a response from the community affairs manager of Golden Star Wassa Limited but he refused to speak on the matter.
