Nigerian oil blast victims will be buried in mass graves, according to authorities.

Hundreds of victims of a massive explosion at an illicit oil refinery in Nigeria's south-eastern state of Imo are likely to be buried Monday afternoon, according to the country's national emergency management agency, Nema.

Ifeanyi Nnaji, the agency's regional head of operations, told the BBC that 110 people have been confirmed deceased so far, including a pregnant woman.

A total of 70 people were injured in the incident, with several of them in severe condition in hospitals.

The majority of the casualties, including workers and those who had come to buy fuel, were completely burned.

Many families were unable to locate the bodies of their loved ones who had perished in the accident.

Authorities say mass burials will take place close to the crime location.

The refinery's owner has been declared a sought person by the authorities.

The reason for the explosion, which occurred in the Abaeze settlement of the Egbema area on Friday night and Saturday morning, is yet unknown.
