The Girl child coordinator of the Atwima Nwabiagya North has revealed that abstinence is key if teenage girls want to upgrade their lives to occupy key positions in Ghana someday.

The Girl Child Coordinator of Atwima Nwabiagya North Municipality, Mrs Charity Donkor has hinted that the majority of teenage girls’ failure to pass out with distinctions in Basic Certificate Examinations (BECE) and the West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is as result of their higher demand for sex.

She has advised young girls to abstain from sexual activities if they want to brighten their future academically to play a significant role in the development of Ghana.

Teenage pregnancy is on the rise in the Atwima Nwabiagya North Municipal and SoireeNews embarked on a visit to speak with the Girl Child Coordinator about anomaly ruining the dreams of younger girls not only in the Municipality but Ghana as a whole.

According to her, the Intelligence quotient (IQ) are tools that measure intellectual abilities and potentials of human, purposely designed to reflect a wide range of cognitive skills, such as reasoning, logic, and problem-solving.

She educated per research conducted, most of the young girls who have not known men are very active and do well in academic activities yet the moment they are influenced into sexual acts, they lose focus and drown their dreams.

“Per science research, the IQ of young girls who engage in sex at tender age drops by 45 per cent. So their dullness in class is contributed by their early sex life. It is a harm to their system and brains,” she said in an interview with Soireenews.

She cited that the abuse of girls is intimidating the educational ladder after the outcome of research done last two and three years.

According to her, enrolment of girls at primary level normally stands at 80 per cent, the Junior High School at 60 and the Senior High School also at 45 per cent. From the Senior High School to tertiary level is usually at 25 to 20 per cent, an indication that as education advance there is a decline in the number of girls due to teenage pregnancy.

She advised parents to instill discipline in their wards and guide them to abstain from carnal appeals to build up their future for the best.
