Tunisian leader celebrates expected referendum win
After a decade of the political impasse that followed the 2011 Arab Spring, he declared that Tunisia would now enter a new chapter.
Kais Saied, the president of Tunisia, has been celebrating what appears to be his victory in a vote on a new constitution that grants him nearly limitless authority.
After an exit poll showed that more than 90% of voters backed the president's plan, Mr. Saied made an early morning appearance in front of ecstatic supporters.
However, less than 30% of the population participated.
If voting had occurred over two days, according to Mr. Saied, the turnout would have been higher.
