Liverpool could not find a way through against Real Madrid in the second leg of the quarter-finals of the Champions League at Anfield as they settled for a 0-0 draw.

The draw means Los Blancos have advanced into the semifinals of the Champions League and will play Chelsea.

It was a superb intensity from Liverpool in the early stages and the Reds linked up particularly well down the left-hand side and caused Valverde all sorts of problems.

Mohamed Salah had a golden opportunity in the 2-minute after the Reds won the ball back in midfield before lofting it immediately in behind Real. Salah tried to slot home but Courtois saved the low effort with his legs.

Milner later forced a flying save from Courtois after a break down the hosts' right flank. The Liverpool man tried to bend an effort from the edge of the box into the Belgian's top corner, but Courtois got a strong hand to it.

Real begun to hit Liverpool’s defence through Arnold’s position but the defensive vulnerabilities of the Liverpool player was well documented as he kept Vinícius in check.

Salah missed the target once again following an attack started by a superb chested turn from Wijnaldum just inside Real's half. It unfolded with Mané cutting a ball back across the box to Salah, who caught in onto his deadly left foot but could only blaze his effort over.

Madrid balanced the game in the second half and an effort on goal fell for Vinicius but he was denied by a superb double block from Alisson after trying to dink the ball over the onrushing keeper.

The game ended goalless and Madrid goes through with a 3-1 aggregate.
