Volta Voters Voted Against President Akufo Addo For His Reckless Speech During The Floods

There is a proverb in Ewe that goes like, 'Nya le mumu ƒe dɔme gake mekpɔ nu woagblɔ̃e o,' which means the dumb has so much in his belly but does not have the mouth to say it.

The disgruntled NPP members in the Constituencies across the Volta Region wish they could voice their misgivings about the misgovernance by this government and the failure of the whole system.

In private conversations with most of them, they confess their disappointment in the 8-year rule of the Nana Akufo Addo/Bawumia government. Their livelihoods have dwindled, and their standard of living has worsened.

Only a few, especially the chairmen and the big wigs who found other means of making it big through their so-called business moves and deals, can raise their shoulders.

Before and during the just-ended primaries, most of them I interacted with indicated they were going to vote against the establishment candidate because they felt virtually forced by their chairmen to vote in the direction of Bawumia.

The complaint is, how can the chairmen, who were allegedly given brand new MG pickups and One Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHs 100,000), ask the polling station executives to do their bidding for the establishment candidate for a pittance?

However, those who openly revolt against the system were threatened with removal from the album and not receiving the inducement from Bawumia. This threat was actually enforced.

They kept quiet and showed their dissent during the primaries by voting against the system to express that 'monkeys won't work for baboons to enjoy.'

Studying all the results from the constituencies, it's clear that all constituencies affected by the floods voted against the establishment candidate, thereby giving the president a protest vote for not showing concern during their time of grief.

What I see going forward is that, with a little push from the NDC towards these disgruntled voters, they can secretly sway their votes to the green army. There is hope for NDC in 2024 based on this anger in people against the misrule and the reckless statements of the sitting President Nana Addo against the Voltarians not voting for him and the NPP.

'ɣe ɖuƒeé abɔ kpena le,' and I believe the Volta Region will go back to its root and play for Team NDC.
