The rest of the policies of former President Dramani are a promise to run the leanest government in Ghana’s history with not more than 60 Ministers, a promise to scrap Ex gratia payments by implementing the recommendations contained in the Prof. Fiadjour Constitutional Review Committee report and a promise to see to the completion of the Constitutional review process to address all emerging governance issues and strengthen accountability.
On his claim that the National Health Insurance Scheme was the brainchild of former President Kuffour, the NDC firebrand pointed out that President Kuffuor never promised a National Health Insurance Scheme but rather a Mutual Health Insurance scheme.
The NDC man stressed that there is a big difference between the two.
For the records, he noted that it was under the Rawlings/NDC government that National Health Insurance was first piloted.
According to him, the records further show that the then opposition, the Kufour-led NPP openly opposed a single National Health Insurance scheme at the time, and this is captured by the Hansard of Parliament and several media publications.
He indicated that it is an indisputable fact, that the policy of a single National Health Insurance Scheme was first implemented by the Mills/Mahama government in 2012.
According to Mr Nurudeen, the fact also remains that it was the erstwhile NDC/Mahama government that started the implementation of a progressively free SHS programme in 2015/2016 for over 500,000 day Students, with the medium-term objective to roll out the program on wholesale basis.
He stressed that "This we did in line with Article 25(1)(b) of 1992 Constitution."
Mr Nurudeen explained that this vision of President Mahama was not going to compromise quality and lead to all the ugly fallouts of the double-track system we have witnessed under Akufo-Addo and Bawumia.
He pointed out that Dr. Poku ought to be reminded, that governance is not about cheap sloganeering which is what the NPP is known for. Governance is about pursuing sincere, practicable and sustainable policies that bring development and meaningful transformation in the lives of a people.
Mr Nurudeen mentioned that record of President Mahama in office remains unassailable and his vision for Ghana, unparalleled.
He stressed that no amount of sponsored vilification by NPP hirelings can diminish the stature of the visionary nation-builder, President John Mahama in the sight of the Ghanaian people who have clearly seen the difference between light and darkness.
