223 Requests Received From  2020 To Date Since Implementation Of RTI - Oppong Nkrumah Reveals

The Minister of Information who doubles as Member of Parliament (MP) for Ofoase Ayirebi Constituency in the Eastern Region, Mr. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has revealed that since the implementation of Right To Information law(RTI) a total number of 223 requests has been made by public institutions.

The Minister of Information who doubles as Member of Parliament (MP) for Ofoase Ayirebi Constituency in the Eastern Region, Mr. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has revealed that since the implementation of Right To Information law(RTI) a total number of 223 requests has been made by public institutions.
His response to a parliamentary question was filed by Mr. Apreku Twum-Barimah, who sought to know how many individuals and institutions have made use of the RTI Act to request information from various public institutions.
The Minister answered by giving the breakdown of the request made.
He stated that in 2020, a total number of 85, and in 2021, 129 requests from information were submitted by individuals and institutions. He added that in 2022 only 10 requests have been received so far.
The Rights to Information bill was passed into law on 26 March 2019 by the Parliament of Ghana, the law is to enable citizens to hold the government accountable to ensure that there is a high level of transparency in the governance of the country.
Mr. Nkrumah urged the media to make use of the RTI bill for credible information.
