Josep Bartomeu has been provisionally granted bail after spending a night in police custody, Marca reports.

The former Barcelona president was arrested following the ‘Barcagate’’ scandal where funds were alleged to have been diverted to pay companies to discredit players and people who were critical of his board.

The club’s current chief executive Oscar Grau, head of legal services Roma Gomez Ponti and Bartomeu's advisor Jaume Masferrer were also arrested by Catalan police, who searched the club's offices on Monday morning.

Grau and Gomez were released on Monday morning but Bartomeu and Jaume Masferrer spent the night in Police custody before appearing before a judge on Tuesday morning, Spanish media wrote.

"Barcelona's investigating court 13, within a case opened in May 2020 for crimes of disloyal administration and corruption in business has today taken statements from former FC Barcelona executives Josep M. Bartomeu and Jaume Masferrer, as investigated persons," the High Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) reported.

"The two under investigation, who have been brought before the court today, have invoked their right not to testify and the magistrate has agreed to release them on bail.

"The case, for which the secret of summary proceedings has been lifted, remains open."

Barcelona will decide on their next President on Sunday, March 7, 2021, and among them, Joan Laporta remains key.
