Canoe operators on the White Volta at Nawuni in the Kumbungu District of the Northern region are appealing to government and Non-Governmental Organisations to come to their aid with live jackets to help safeguard the lives of citizens.

The operators whose profession is crossing travellers from one end of the river to the other have been plying without life jackets which risks the life of travellers especially in situations where there is overboard.

According to paddlers, their smaller canoes are most of the times compelled by travellers to get on board more than the actual numbers supposed to occupy the canoe which threatens lives, therefore, all stakeholders must come to their aid and help them acquire life jackets to prevent deaths should the canoe capsize someday.
