ECG workers to embark on strike today

Workers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will embark on a sit-down strike today, April 26, 2021,  across the country.

As contained in a circular sighted by Citinewsroom, the strike will begin from 8am to 10am.

The ECG workers  have in the past few weeks been demanding the removal of the current Managing Director of the company, Mr Kwame Agyeman-Budu.

According to the workers, Mr. Agyeman-Budu has not satisfactorily steered the affairs of the company since his appointment.

They said the incompetence of the Managing Director has dwindled the fortunes of the nation's power generating company.

They also accuse their MD of breaching procurement processes.

“A clear example is the award of contracts of some Six (6) substations where the recommendations of the evaluation committee were sidestepped and awarded to other companies,” the Junior and Senior Staff Unions said in a statement.
