President for West Akyim Cooperative Cocoa Farmers and Marketing Union Limited, Mr Sampson Adu Essel, has complained bitterly that climate change is seriously affecting cocoa production in Ghana.

President for West Akyim Cooperative Cocoa Farmers and Marketing Union Limited, Mr Sampson Adu Essel, has complained bitterly that climate change is seriously affecting cocoa production in Ghana.
According to him, they experiencing these problems as a results of unlawful cutting down of trees which gives rain on time, destroying of river banks all in the name of illegal small scale mining activities puporlarly known as galamsey operations.
He said due to these unlawful activities in the country,cocoa production has reduced drastically.
He added another challenge cocoa farmers are facing is bad road network.
Mr Essel indicated that he doesn't understand why cocoa roads are been constructed in the city rather leaving coca producing area roads unconstructed.
He therefore urged the government to construct roads in cocoa production areas under cocoa roads to enable cocoa farmers transport their production to town without suffering.
He made these statements on Saturday in  Asamankese during their Annual General Meeting of West Akyim Cooperative Cocoa Farmers and Marketing Union Limited.
Some of the cocoa Farmers also talked about how cocoa has helped them.
They urged their colleagues cocoa farmers to pay for the fertilizers government has given to them so that government can bring another to them on time.
