Germany is going to give Cameroon the stolen holy statue

A religious statue that was taken from Cameroon at the turn of the 20th century will be returned by Germany.

The Ngonnso, or female figure, will be returned to the Community in northwest Cameroon, according to the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, which oversees the museums in the city's capital, Berlin.

A colonial officer removed the monument and presented it to Berlin's Ethnological Museum in 1903.

The statement was well received in Cameroon, a prince from the No kingdom told Reuters.

Mbinglo Gilles Yumo Nyuydzewira is cited as stating, "After more than 120 years, we can only remain joyful for it is an opportunity to honor and get closer to our ancestral links with love and togetherness."

The foundation also said that it will return 23 pieces to Namibia and is planning an agreement to repatriate objects to Tanzania.
