Pep Guardiola has ruled out a possible move to Barcelona following speculations linking him to the Blaugranas.

The Manchester City manager over the weekend was revealed as a key figure to convince Messi to extend his stay at the Camp Nou, according to the presidential candidate of the club, Victor Fonte.

Pep is in the final 12 months of his contract at City and a renewal of commitment seems to have delayed yet the manager on Friday dismissed reports of his intentions to join Barcelona who sees Ronald Koeman struggling to steady the club.

When asked if he has his mind set at Barca at the end of his contract, Pep said, “I am incredibly happy here. I'm delighted to be in Manchester and I hope I can do a good job this season to stay longer.”

Guardiola won two European Cup with Barcelona, an achievement he has not been able to repeat since leaving the club with Bayern Munich or Manchester City having conquered the local scene.

Josep Bartomeu stepped down on Tuesday night and with Victor Font considered favourable for the position, it means Pep could be on his way out of the Etihad when his contract finish.

“Most of the best professionals who know about this style are also fans and love the club, like Pep Guardiola, Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Carles Puyol,” Font told Sky Sports News.

“They are all legends that love Barcelona but do not work for Barca today – we need to bring them back to ensure we will have a very competitive project.”
