"I'm hoping for a miracle," Celine Dion states in a rare interview on her health

The 56-year-old Dion initially revealed in December 2022 that she had been diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome, a condition that results in rigid muscles in the arms, legs, and torso. Emotional turmoil or noise is known to produce spasms in those muscles.

She told Vogue France that she was "well" despite the fact that her condition needed "a lot of work" while she was the magazine's cover girl for the May issue. "Five days a week I undergo athletic, physical and vocal therapy," she stated.

"The illness hasn't left me; it's still with me and never will be. I'm hoping that scientific study will lead to a miracle and a cure, but for now I just have to learn to live with it," she remarked. Treatment can help reduce symptoms, but there is no known cure for the degenerative disorder known as stiff person syndrome.

The US National Institutes of Health report that twice as many women as men are afflicted. Dion was forced to postpone a few of her 2023 and 2024 tour dates in May of last year due to her lack of strength.

When asked if she will be able to perform again, Dion told Vogue France she "can't answer that" at this time. "I'm not sure... "My body shall inform me," she murmured. In February, Dion surprised everyone by presenting Taylor Swift with the Album of the Year award at the Grammy Awards.

In an effort to raise public awareness, Dion declared in January that she would produce a full-length documentary about her illness, which would be available to view on Amazon Prime Video. Over her lengthy career, Dion has sold over 250 million albums.

The Quebec-born star's "Courage World Tour" started in 2019, which was more than three years after the 73-year-old death of her longtime manager and spouse, Rene Angelil. Before the Covid-19 epidemic postponed the remaining gigs, Dion had completed 52.
