IS video purports to show Christian executions in Nigeria.

The Islamic State has released a video purporting to show the death of 20 Christian people in Borno state in northern Nigeria.

One of the masked militants carrying a knife said it was to avenge the killing of the group's leaders in the Middle East earlier this year, speaking in Hausa.

The BBC has been unable to confirm the contents of the video or the location of the film.

It was posted on an IS-affiliated news site and depicts three sets of detainees dressed as civilians.

Authorities have yet to respond to the video.

IS terrorists, who operate under the name Islamic State West Africa Province (Iswap) in the Lake Chad region, as well as another Islamist militant group, Boko Haram, have recently sustained massive losses as a result of attacks by a multi-national military force.

In the past, such military campaigns were frequently accompanied by extreme propaganda videos.
