Legendary former captain of the Black Stars, Abedi Ayew, popularly known as 'Abedi Pele' has chosen Kofi Kinaata as his favorite Ghanaian musician.

The extremely successful player revealed in an interview that highlife was his best music genre, going further to namecheck Kofi Kinaata as his best Ghanaian artiste.

According to Pele, he fell in love with Kofi Kinaata's music after he saw him perform live at a party he was invited to attend.

In the interview with GTV's Sports+ he stated: "... a friend had a party in his house and he invited me. Kofi Kinaata came and performed live in front of me and that was the day I just said oh wow this is the guy"

Kofi Kinaata could obviously not believe he ears, as he took to his Twitter account to respond to the unique praise directed at him by the football god, he said: “It is an honour to be Abedi Ayew Pele’s favourite Ghanaian artiste #TheMaestro ????????????????????”

 

 

In the footage the maestro initially struggled to identify the musician, disclosing that he knew his favorite musician was a highlife musician from Takoradi but he could not properly remember his name. He was eventually aided by the interviewer, who pointed out to Abedi Pele that he must have be speaking of Kofi Kinaata.

The Ghanaian legend is the only man to have won the African Player of the Year award three consecutive times (1991–93). He was bestowed the highest honor, the Order of Volta (civil division) by the Ghanaian government in 1998 - the same year in which he retired from professional football.
