Joan Laporta is optimistic that Lionel Messi will stay at Barcelona after his reelection.

The Barca president before he was voted to lead the Catalans on Sunday, March 7 assured that Messi will stay and he is only the right man to convince the talisman to stay if voted to lead the Blaugranas again.

Taking to the stage to appreciate the efforts of his campaign team and volunteers for his success, the former boss could not hide his task of keeping to his promises of convincing Messi to stay.

"Today marks 20 years since a boy named Leo Messi debuted with Barcelona's Infantil B [U12-13] team," Laporta said after his win to Marca.

"Seeing the best player in the world come to vote with his son is an example of what we've said.

"Leo loves Barcelona. That's the reflection of it. The best player in the world loves Barcelona.

"Hopefully that will help him to stay at Barcelona. That's what we want."

He overcame Victor Font and Toni Freixa in the club's 14th elections.

Joan Laporta obtained 9,265 to Font's 4,431 and Freixa's 2,634.
