Farmers at New Wenchi-Ahyiaem in the Sunyani West Municipal of the Bono Region are calling for government’s intervention over activities of Fulani herdsmen in the area.

According to the farmers, about 10,000 cattle have been imported by the said Fulani people and are destroying their crops.

Storming the Ark FM studio to register their grievances, leader of the group, Kwabena Mensah said all efforts to get leadership resolve the issue have proven futile hence the call. They want government to as a matter of urgency intervene before the issue escalates.

Meanwhile, efforts to reach the Assembly Member for Mallam Ayigbe Electoral area, an area within the District,  Philip Bantaa proved futile as he failed to respond to calls.

However, the Municipal Chief Executive for the Sunyani West Municipal, Martin Obeng, says even though his outfit has not been officially petitioned to that effect, upon hearing it for first time after Ark News confrontation,  the Assembly is not relenting on the issue as it is stepping in to intervene for the sake of peace and order to the area.

One major issue the Ghanaian state has been grappling with is the upsurge in farmer-herders' conflicts. One of such instance is the conflict between the Konkomba and Fulani ethnic groups in Gushiegu, Northern Ghana.

On December 7, 2011, the Konkomba and Fulani ethnic groups in Gushiegu engaged in conflict that resulted in killings, destruction, and expulsion.
