One Week Observation Held For The Family of Seven Who Died In A Fire Disaster At Buduburam

A one-week funeral observation has been held for the seven-member family who was all consumed in an inferno at Gomoa Buduburam in the central region. The sorrowful event saw the attendance of members of the education directorate, teachers, family, and pupils. Meanwhile, the district director of education has announced that a series of psychological assistance is been offered to teachers and pupils of the Gomoa Buduburam D/A Basic School where Mr. Assan Donkor was a headteacher.

Mr. Assan Robert Assan Donkor, his wife, and 5 children including a four-month-old baby were smoking in a fire outbreak that gutted their residential apartment at Gomoa Buduburam on Saturday, January 15, 2021.

A one-week observation in memory of the departed souls has been held at Gomoa Buduburam.

Speaking to Soireenews, the district director of education for Gomoa East, Francisca Esi De-Graft Johnson, observed that though the demise of Mr. Assan has created a vacuum in the school he headed, plans are underway to fill that vacuum in order to ensure a smooth administration of the school.

Whilst commiserating with the extended family, she also announced that psychological support is been offered to the teachers and pupils of the school where Mr. Assan until his demise was the headmaster.


Some members of the legislative body also attended the occasion to commiserate with teachers, pupils, and the extended family of the fire victims. Here are some of their reactions to the incident.

 Kweku Assan Donkor is a family spokesperson, he has been described him a calm and intelligent man. He has described the tragedy as devastating but has commended the education directorate for their intervention since the happening of the incident.

He announced that the final funeral rite of the family has been scheduled to take place on 19Th February 2022 at Kade in the Eastern region.

Meanwhile, Chief of Buduburam, Nana Kojo Essel II has announced that a purification ritual shall be conducted at the residence where the incident occurred. He has admonished people to be more cautious with fire especially when the harmattan intensifies.
