The former chairman for the New Patriotic Party in the Jacobu constituency, Mr Adu Boahen has stated that the introduction of 'Operation Vanguard' in mining communities in the fight against 'galamsey' was a serious threat to the party in mining communities.

The 'Operation Vanguard' and 'Galamstop' were launched by the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2017 and were dominated by the military who's job was to enforce the ban.

The 2020 general election saw the NPP lose massively in mining areas and the former chairman believes the actions and attitude of the military were key in deciding the outcome of the 2020 election.

"The miners complained of the harassment they received in the hands of the military and nothing was done about it which created disaffection for the party," the former chairman said.

The Ashanti Regional Organiser of the NPP, Francis Adomako shared in the same idea last year and attributed the loss to stakeholders failure to communicate to people in such communities. According to him, the action of the military was considered as a half to their daily bread which they thought was a threat to their lives hence their decision to change the government.

Mr Boahen however, was full of praises on during his interview on Shaft FM with morning show host, Ghanaba following the Minister-designate for Lands and Natural resource, Samuel Abu Jinapor's decision to engage galamsey operators for a lasting solution to the menace.
