The past Bishop of Kumasi Diocese of the Methodist Church, Rt. Rev. Prof. Osei Sarfo Kantanka says the recent bad blood character of Ghanaian Senior High School students is as a result of the recent unrefined contents publicized by the media.

He ruled out apportioning the blame to the availability of mobile phones and educated that mobile gadgets are rather assisting to investigate the moral fiber of individuals.

According to the lecturer of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), there has been redolent attitudes in the secrecy of men that the electronic gadget is facilitating to expose therefore it is the duty of parents to give their wards moral attributes from the home to refine their way of life anywhere they find themselves.

The Ashanti Region was thrown into frenzy when seven female students were spotted in viral video encouraging girls to sleep with men who are ready to offer them money with another seen condemning girls who refuse to have sex with men.

The seven girls who are all final year students of Ejisuman Senior High School were deboardinized after being accused of using a mobile phone, which is prohibited in basic and high schools to “intentionally upload a video on social media where unprintable words that border on sex were spewed out.”

 



They were sacked from the boarding house effective February 6, 2020, pending a final determination of their fate by the school’s Board, a letter to the Ashanti Regional Director of Education said.

Although the school’s management is yet to speak after issuing the statement, the Ashanti Regional Student Representative Council Coordinator, Raphael Sarkodie called for intensified guidance and counselling in Senior High Schools.

Speaking on Kumasi based Angel FM on the subject on the Kwame Tanko’s Morning Show on Wednesday, February 12, 2020, Prof. Osei Sarfo Kantanka addressed that the entire blame is to the society for trying to curb the moral principles of man by permitting the media to design programs that does not educate today’s youth but rather enhance their sexual desires to seek for satisfaction.

The revealed that the media has the power to control and direct the activities of the youth hence the need for the various bodies in charge of regulating their activities to be on their toes and set standards for them for the welfare of the future leaders.

“The telenovela’s that are shown on our televisions plays a key role,” he said.

“Taking time to translate them to suit our environment does not help the youth of our days. The songs that released are suggestive and even majority of the adverts dialogs around sex, so much of the blame is to the society. We are neglecting our values”

“Majority of our activities as Ghanaians is flooding. Everywhere you go, the bombardment is hitting you hence the recent change of manners in the Ghanaian youth.

“The phone is rather helping us to know what really goes on in the secrecy of others,” he ended.
