Bessa Simons thinks KiDi's and Kuami Eugene's songs lack the original Ghanaian highlife flavour.

The veteran artiste noted that although the two Lynx Entertainment signees are doing very well with their brand of highlife music, he feels they can do much better if they infuse the original Ghanaian highlife sounds into their tracks.

Bessa Simons, who is the current acting President of the Musicians’ Union of Ghana (Musiga), noted that it is the little elements that add or subtract authenticity into tracks.

While speaking to Prince Benjamin on Class 91.3 Fm S Class Drive, he explained how the two artists are not using highlife guitars and percussions in the tracks.

Instruments that the old veterans had mastered in their own days; even though highlife music has evolved, Bessa Simmons noted that not using percussions in Highlife music changes the genre of the track entirely.

“We have some young guys doing highlife music. Kudos to them. They're doing well. I mean Kuami Eugene, KiDi... they are doing very well but I think what is missing in their music is those little authentic guitars that we have, our percussion that we have."

"Even if they don't want to use it more, just sprinkle it in there and it will give you that authentic Highlife sound,” He noted.

The former Osibisa band member, who has over forty years of practical music and mentorship experience, has worked with big names in West African Music such as Pat Thomas, Papa Yankson, Kari Bannerman, Osibisa, C.K. Mann, Ebo Taylor and Multi-talented Afro-pop musician Gyedu Blay Ambolley.

As the Keyboardist for the band, he was well known for his song titled ‘Belembe.’
