South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa has apologized to the people of Ghana over the recent xenophobic attacks in his country resulting into the death and injuries of African nationals and the looting of their shops.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo received the message from Mr. Jeffrey Thamsanqa Radebe, a Minister of State at the Office of the South African Presidency on Tuesday, September 17. The message revealed the detestation of the South African president on the actions of his people against some African residents.

“This is not in line with constitutional democracy, and it is an affront to the rule of law. President Ramaphosa has condemned the violence, and has instructed security agencies to leave no stone unturned in bringing all the perpetrators to book,” Radebe disclosed.

The Minister made known to the country’s administrator that the action of South African should not obstruct the relationship between Ghana and South Africa due to the historic relations between the two nations.

“What has happened should not stand in the way of closer cooperation between Ghana and South Africa.”

He further revealed President Ramaphosa’s plan to pay a visit to Ghana in December 2019 disclosing that the waiving of visa requirements for nationals of the two countries were being finalised.

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo thanked the Minister for his president’s courageous act to to punish perpetrators of the violence in the xenophobic issue. He therefore counselled him to punish the authors of violence and apprehend them for justice to be served.

He also guaranteed Mr. Jeffrey Thamsanqa Radebe that the stronger ties of cooperation between Ghana and the Sub-Saharan nation will continue to exist for Ghana remains committed to realizing the vision of a united Africa.
