Ghanaian actor turned politician, John Dumelo, has stated that COVID-19 virtual concert was a pointless program and a waste of important time and money.

The opposition NDC’s Ayawaso West Wuogon MP aspirant was speaking on Entertainment Capital on Accra100.5FM on Saturday, 18 April 2020 on the concert organized by The Ministry of Communication on Monday, 13 April 2020.

Renowned and celebrated Ghanaian musicians were called to perform on the program, which raised many controversies, that the requested have been paid with monies that could have been used to fight the spread of the virus.

Dumelo stressed that the concert was meaningless and it “would have been more helpful if they had even invested that money used to organize the concert to, perhaps, buy more PPE or pay more allowances to the health personnel or used it for something more practical related to the COVID-19 crisis.”

“The musicians who performed, it’s their business, they were doing the job assigned so I don’t blame them, that one it’s not a problem. I just blame the organizers for setting up that concert. I don’t know how much they spent but at the end of the day, what is the point?

“People are sick, people need food, people need things, people are dying and they say they want to organize a concert to launch an app? What will the app also do? It’s pointless and needless.”

Mr Dumelo spoke out that he was not aware of the virtual concert until he saw comments about it on Twitter.
