In what is perceived as a resounding rejection of President Kais Saied's contentious reforms, only 11% of Tunisian voters participated in the country's second round of parliamentary elections.

After the president shut down parliament in 2021 and granted himself nearly limitless executive powers, opposition parties boycotted the election, charging him with plotting a coup.

At the same time, he unveiled a new constitution.

There are serious shortages of numerous staple items in Tunisia as a result of the country's severe economic situation.
