We are tired of electing leaders - residents lament

We see it being needless for electing leaders here because we gain nothing positive from them after they are being elected chairman Kofi said.

Some residents at Akaporiso, a suburb in the Obuasi East District of the Ashanti region have vowed not to partake in the coming assembly members election, nor the general election.

It would be recalled that, on 5 September 2021, residents of Akaporiso were in tears as they recorded a sad demise of a 16 - year - old Sekinatu Mobammed who drowned in the river Akapori after she was sent to fill a gas cylinder.

On that faithful day, Sekinatu was sent by her female teacher to assist her to fill a gas cylinder, upon reaching river Pompo, Sekinatu slipped and fell into the river. Unfortunately, she had died after she was retrieved from the river by Nadmo officials who were present to aid and rescue the JHS 2 student.

Residents blamed the constructor for wrongly constructing the canal within the water lane being the cause of the demise of Sekina.

Soireenews In a follow-up engagement with chairman Kofi, a resident at Akaporiso, who resides at the exact end where Sekinatu drowned said, the residents were promised by the assembly member for Akaporiso Abusco electoral area who doubles as the presiding member for the Obuasi east district, Hon. Jeffrey Kwadwo Agyei that a canal would be constructed to curb unforeseen circumstances.

5 months down the line residents have not witnessed a fulfilment of the promise.

We see it being needless for electing leaders here because we gain nothing positive from them after they are being elected chairman Kofi said.

Sadly, the honourable assembly member for the Area, Honourable Jeffrey Kwadwo Agyei has been mute over the incident which occurred 5 months ago chairman Kofi added.
