Women Farmers Receive 500 Cockerels From Upper Manya Krobo Assembly

The Upper Manya Krobo Assembly in the Eastern Region has distributed 500 cockerels to fifty (50) women farmers for free.

The free distribution of the cockerels is part of the economic empowerment drive of the assembly which intends to bring diversity to agricultural practices for multiple income generation sources.

Over the past month, the assembly has resourced beekeepers in the district and distributed about 30,000 Oil Palm and mango seedlings to three hundred and thirteen (313) crop farmers in the district.

The cockerels are expected to be raised across their local birds to give forth offspring of these new breeds who are bigger and lay more eggs.

The District Director of the Department of Agriculture, Hilary Alagbo said the distribution is part of the department’s work plan for the year 2021 under Modernising Agriculture in Ghana (MAG) Program, five-year budgetary support from the Canadian government to Ghana for the enhancement of agriculture in the country.

Some of the beneficiaries thanked the Agric Department for coming to their aid and said the gesture would go a long way to improve their economic lives.

They advised their colleague farmers not to solely depend on a single economic activity they do, but also venture into other lucrative works to help cushion their financial status in order to enjoy farming during their old age.
