The Zongo chief at Bechem in the Tano South Municipality of the Ahafo region, Saliki Inusah Salifu has appealed to the President, Nana Akufo Addo and the Ministry of Education to increase Islamic Senior High Schools in the country and extend it to the Ahafo Region to improve education at Zongo communities.

According to him, this is the only way the youth living in the Zongo Communities will be equipped to enable them to contribute their quota to the development of the country.

Saliki Inusah Salifu said the non-availability of  Islamic secondary institutions in the new created Ahafo Region is depriving the Zongo community of their right to education hence their concern.

He stressed that the Bechem Zongo community have land to support the government to build Islamic Senior High School.

The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia had earlier reiterated the government’s commitment to prioritise education as a catalyst for Zongo development agenda.

He said providing education for the youth of the country, especially in deprived communities such as the Zongos, is the surest way of human resource development and poverty alleviation hence the NPP government’s commitment to investing in education for all.

“Education has proven to be a reliable vehicle for development and the only way we can ensure a bright future for our children, our Zongo communities and the nation is to ensure that we provide them education,” he said addressing Zongo Chiefs and Imams, as well as residents of Ashaiman.

“The government of President Akufo-Addo believes that no child should be out of school because their parents cannot afford to pay fees, which is why we introduced Free SHS to provide secondary education for all, including our children from Zongo communities’’, he stressed.
