An abandoned 7 unit classroom block at Kushibo L/A primary school for about 7 years now handicap pupils to learn under trees.

The school, having only a 3 unit pavilion been used as classrooms is accommodating nursery 1 to 3 in one classroom, primary 4 and 5 in another classroom and the third classroom is for primary 6.

The lower primary classes from primary 1 up to 3 are learning under trees, with a lot of challenges affecting teaching and learning including an inadequate desk for pupils, lack of classrooms and lack of teachers quarters.

A development journalist, Abdul Sammed Gurundari with Soireenews visited the community on Monday,  September 6, 2021, to ascertain why pupils are asked to go home anytime it threatens to rain.

Though the school is on holiday, the reporter moving around the school realized the pavilion is not conducive for students to stay during rains. Some of the community members said the nature of the classrooms encourages teachers to let pupils return home any time dark clouds are forming.

The reporter counted about only 15 dual desk furniture for the whole school from nursery 1 to primary 6. A greater number of the pupils sit on the floor to learn due to inadequate desks.

The uncompleted block could have accommodated the entire school but it was funded by GetFund and stalled since 2014 as a result of lack of funds.

According to the Assemblymember for Vorgu-Kushibo electoral area, Honourable Iddrisu Issah said the school was established in the year 1990 but has since not seen befitting infrastructure.

“I contacted the District Chief Executive, DCE concerning the uncompleted classroom block and he tasked me to get him the contractor’s phone number to call him. He later told me that he reached out to the contractor and they even visited the GetFund office in Accra but was told that it is the lack of funds that has stalled the project and when there are funds available, the contractor would return to the site,” he said.

The community members also expressed disappointment in the stalled nature of the school project and how it is affecting teaching and learning for their children.

The Kushibo L/A primary school watching when the government come to their aid to get the community a befitting school block and furniture to dully accommodate the pupils.
