ADAM-GH to pay for indelible ink budget, demands budget from EC for payment

ADAMS-GH foresees that the 2024 general elections will be marred by violence should the Electoral Commission goes-ahead to implement its no indelible ink directives.

Instead of the foregoing, the Anchoring Democracy Advocacy Movement-GH(ADAMS-GH) believes that his outfit's decision to pay for the controversial indelible ink will safeguard Ghana's peace and security.

The civil society organization's call stemmed from its regular monitoring of elections in Ghana and the conviction that the various electoral reforms should tailor towards safeguarding the credibility and integrity of elections through free and fair means.

Moreover, ADAMS-GH maintained that the narrative might be different and dire should the indelible ink be eliminated from Ghana's electoral processes.

"The integrity of our electoral outcome as a representation of the true will of the people remains non-negotiable and at the heart of ensuring this is the application of the indelible ink which has remained a constant feature in the face of all the reforms of our electoral process", a letter addressed and endorsed by Mr. Azubila Emmanuel Abdul-Salam, Executive Secretary, ADAMS-GH to the Electoral Commission copied to the Soireenews.com indicating that incident of double voting coupled with overvoting could endanger the sanctity and integrity of the elections.

ADAM-GH expresses fears stating, "Not even the introduction of biometric verification devices and colored photo identification cards could phase out the application of the indelible ink. We are hereby emphasizing the importance of this segment to the entire voting process".

In its letter headlined"SUBMIT BUDGET ON THE INDELIBLE INK FOR US TO PAY AHEAD OF 2024 PRESIDENTIAL AND PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS", the Think Tank wishes to absorb the financial burden for the indelible ink and save innocent souls who might "fall" should the election be held In without the subject matter.

Anchoring Democracy Advocacy Movement Ghana (ADAM-GH) is a civil society organization that anchors proper democratic principles is resolved to save the country from any unforeseen danger through that means.

"Indelible Ink" has remained a constant feature in the face of all the reforms the electoral process has had to undergo over the years.

"Incidence of double voting and by extension over voting have significantly been dealt with in most electoral exercises and therefore protects the sanctity of those elections. Not even the introduction of Biometric verification devices and Coloured photo identification cards could phase out the application of indelible ink.

We are hereby emphasizing the importance of this segment to the entire voting process", it said.

"It, therefore, comes as a shock to ADAM-GH when your outfit pushed for the removal of the use of the indelible ink from our electoral process in the 2024 general elections when there has not been any justifiable cause for such a decision", the letter noted.

What comes into sharp focus informing our decision to request to absorb the entire budget of the Indelible Ink, the ADAMS-GH explained, is the unfortunate incident in the Yendi constituency last weekend during the just-ended Parliamentary primaries and other areas during which violence broke out due to disputes over the electoral results even when there was the application of indelible ink.

This is an election conducted with the use of indelible ink, the letter emphasized yet the results are so much into dispute leading to the vandalization of electoral materials, assault on electoral officers, and the security at the polling station leaving the police on duty helpless", the letter explained in part.

The letter further added that the unfortunate incident will be a microcosm of what might happen in the General Elections should the decision of EC not to use the indelible ink be made to stand", it cautioned.

The letter further states, "It is against this background that Anchoring Democracy Advocacy Movement-Ghana (ADAM-GH), a civil society organization that anchors proper Democratic principles wish to propose to the Electoral Commission to furnish it with a budget for the procurement of an indelible ink for the upcoming Presidential and Parliamentary elections come December 2024".

"ADAM-GH is committed to making full payment of the budget for the indelible ink to be used in December general elections", it affirmed.

The letter concludes, "This is an intervention we strongly believe will go a long way to enhance the credibility of the elections 2024 and further consolidate the democratic gains as our bragging rights, Ghana being a beacon of Democracy globally since 1992".
